Combating nonlinear telephone channel-noise using the multiband AM-FM model

چکیده
This study presents a novel technique to enhance telephone speech signals. This technique is based on the Amplitude and Frequency Modulation (AM-FM) model, which represents the speech signal as the sum of N successive AM-FM signals. Based on a leastmean-square error criterion, each AM-FM signal is modified using an iterative algorithm in order to compensate for the deformation of the signal caused by the nonlinear telephone channel. These modified signals are then combined in order to reconstruct the enhanced speech signal. Experiments were conducted using speech signals extracted from the NTIMIT database. Such experiments demonstrate the ability of the algorithm for speech enhancement, in terms of a comparison between the original and synthesized speech and informal listening tests.

AM-FM energy detection and separation in noise using multiband energy operators
This paper develops a multiband or wavelet approach for capturing the AM-FM components of modulated signals immersed in noise. The technique utilizes the recently-popularized nonlinear energy operator Y (s) = (S)'-ss to isolate the AM-FM energy, and an energy separation algorithm (ESA) to extract the instantaneous amplitudes and frequencies. It is demonstrated that the performance of the energy...

We present an overview of AM-FM image analysis techniques. Many nonstationary textured images are multi-partite, and may be considered to comprise several locally narrowband components. We introduce a multi-component AM-FM model useful in describing such images, and show that the components may be demodulated on a spatially local basis using multiband filtering followed by a computationally eff...

متن کاملA AM/FM Single Component Signal Reconstruction using a Nonsequential Time Segmentation and Polynomial Modeling
The problem of estimating nonstationary signals has been considered in many previous publications. In this paper we propose an alternative algorithm in order to accurately estimate AM/FM signals. Only single component signals are considered. We perform local polynomial modeling on short time segments using a nonsequential strategy. The degree of polynomial approximation is limited due to the sh...

Current state-of-the-art methods in variational image segmentation using level set methods are able to robustly segment complex textured images in an unsupervised manner. In recent work, [18, 19] we have explored the potential of AM-FM features for driving the unsupervised segmentation of a wide variety of textured images. Our first contribution in this work is at the feature extraction level, ...
